about

The connection between these works is subtle. Nevertheless, there is an incessant search for a new sonic language, breaking an imposed norm of a secular legacy. The organ, an apparatus that is the sum total of wind, pipes and keys, becomes bigger with the imagination of those who operate it. It is a device that incites the audacity of its operator, rivalling the sonic potential of any modern instrument. This is my contribution: using a Portuguese organ that is over 200 years old in an avant-garde repertoire from the 60s.

Notes:
• Music adaptation for the historical Portuguese organ of the Ajuda Parish, Lisbon. Built in the 18th century by António Xavier Machado e Cerveira, restored in 1988 by António Simões.
• For the realization of these works, several interpretations and non-orthodox functionalities were used, called extended techniques. Atypical sounds of the organ that add to the already wide range of acoustics of the instrument. The listener is invited to a sonic journey into the organ's visceral world.
• It is possible to listen to this album in binaural mode, just by using headphones. You can enjoy the stereo version on any sound system.

"La représentation mentale de machines monstrueuses, sans finalité, qui engloutissent le temps et bourdonnent avec un implacable constance puis se taisent tout à coup de manière inanttendue." (Ligeti, 1969)
