about

Contemporary music compositions featuring organ and electronics.

William Herschel proposed the term "asteroid", coined in Greek as ἀστεροειδής, or asteroeidēs, meaning 'star-like, star-shaped'.
All the compositions are named after asteroids of the asteroid belt. Scientific data of the asteroids where used in the composition, like mass/density, orbital/synodic period and inclination. The heaviest and stable asteroids have distinct harmonies, the smaller and further asteroids have more unorthodox sounds. The unusual sounds where produced with pipe organs, associated with sounds of outer space, radiation and electromagnetic interference. Some relate to the innards working of an organ. Enjoy this trip to the cosmos!

The album cover is a photo of mine in Dark Sky Alqueva, Reguengos of Monsaraz.

Several pipe organs where used, including an XVIII century historical portuguese pipe organ by António Machado e Cerveira. Some of the works are electroacoustic, acousmatic and soundscape, using diverse sounds from pipe organs and outer space. Puredata and several other tools where used to make the sound transformation. Nuendo was used to mix and master. This is a stereo reduction of the original multi-channel works. This is part of my master and PhD program.
